From Monument Valley drive 160 miles, 3 hours and 30 minutes, to South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Make a pit stop at the McDonalds in Kayenta, Arizona to get a sundae and cool down. It’s going to be a late dinner so get other food if needed.
The Grand Canyon Entrance is not close to Mather Point where you will go for sunset. Make a quick stop at the Desert View Watchtower for pictures and then get back in the car and continue to Mather Point. Time is of the essence and you’ll want to be there as the sun goes down. While driving watch out for the elk!
Pro Tip: There are going to be a ton of people at the tip of Mather Point. Turn around and look at the colors of the rocks behind you change as the sun goes down.
